Easy Tips to Get Your Children in Shape

More and more kids are becoming overweight due to a lack of exercise. Kids would rather sit home and play video games or watch TV than get out and exercise. Below are a few tips that will help you as a parent get your child to stop being stationary and get up and engage in physical activity.

Help your child find fun ways to exercise. You can encourage them to join a sport or even just play some informal games with some friends or family members. You can even look into some exercise video games. There are tons of games for all the major game systems that can help make exercise fun and entertaining.

You want your child to get at least thirty minutes of exercise each day. This doesn’t have to be all at once though! It can be a combination of different things throughout the day. Walking the dog in the morning, playing some sports in the afternoon, and going for a bike ride in the evening, for example. There are tons of ways you can break the exercise up into small chunks to make it easier.

Encourage walking places. If you or your child needs to go to a store that’s close by or to a friend’s house, try walking there instead. It may take a bit longer, but your child will get some much needed exercise. If your child is young, you can walk with them, and it’ll give you time to bond as well!

If your family has a dog, have your child (if they’re old enough) take the dog for a walk every day. It can be a great way for them to get some exercise and teach them some responsibility at the same time. If you have multiple kids, rotate who takes the dog for a walk. This way everyone gets a chance to do it.

Whenever you’re doing chores or yard work, have your children give you a hand. It’s a way to get them to help out around the house and get up and get moving at the same time. Raking leaves or mowing the lawn may not be super strenuous, but they’ll be burning off more calories than if they were sitting inside watching TV.

Make sure you’re leading by example, too. If your kids see you sitting around all day, they’re not going to want to exercise either. You want your kids seeing that you’re getting daily exercise too. Not only will it help them get moving, but you’ll benefit from it as well.

Trying doing exercise together as a family. It can be something as simple as going for a walk or a bike ride together. Or you can all go outside and play some basketball or football together. There are plenty of activities that families can do together to get in shape.

None of the tips provided here are particularly difficult. If you keep them in mind, you shouldn’t have any problems getting your children in shape. Some of these tips may even benefit you at the same time!
